I recently got asked about my little concoction that I always drink first thing in the morning and realized that I had never shared it here. I think there are numerous benefits to this little tip, so read on to find out what and why you should have as your morning drink!
WHAT IS IT:
Every morning, before I even have coffee, I drink a cup of warm water with lemon juice and ACV (apple cider vinegar).
To Rehydrate. That 7-8 hour sleep you get each night is a long time to go without drinking, so when you first wake up having 2 cups or more of water is a great way to instantly rehydrate your body. Warm water is more readily available for the cells as opposed to cold water.
Add 1-2 tbsp of lemon juice for vitamin C, antioxidants, and to soothe the stomach as it prepares for a day of digestion. After sleeping, your body has also most likely finished its digestive processes from the previous day and will need to restart. Lemon water helps to start that process back up slowly and gradually to promote better digestion throughout the day.
Add 1 tbsp of ACV (apple cider vinegar) to help start digestion as well as lower blood sugar and support good gut health through its antimicrobial properties. A tablespoon of ACV a day on an empty stomach has also been shown to lead to better weight loss results (if the person is also eating in a calorie deficit). Just be sure you always drink it with at least 8oz of water.
Optional: You can also add 1 tsp grated ginger for its anti-inflammatory benefits as well as digestive support. I do this every now and then.
Even if you're not keen on drinking ACV, start with the warm lemon and water combination every morning first thing. Just that alone will give your body numerous benefits and hydration as well as starting your day with a healthy habit that will likely lead to more healthy choices throughout.
