Happiness Lives in Your Gut

Updated: Apr 16, 2020

To me, the meaning of life is very simple. It's finding happiness in every single thing that you do. Happiness is contagious. If you’re happy, spread the joy by encouraging your fellow humans, giving out smiles, and asking others how they are.

Recognize every moment of glee, joy, delight, and pleasure!

Your brain is the command center of the body. It processes and responds to every single thing that you encounter. It also regulates your hormones - including the ones that make you happy or sad.

Since your brain is constantly working so hard, it requires a LOT of energy. Sixty to seventy percent of the glucose in your body is used to keep up with your brains vigorous demands!

As you probably already know, that energy that your brain requires comes from food. And much like a machine - the type, quality, and quantity of the fuel we use determines our body's efficiency.

For example, a body fueled with overly processed, calorically dense foods will lead to a slow, sleepy, inefficient machine. However, a body fueled with unprocessed foods that are more nutrient dense will yield a powerful, hard-working, and efficient machine!

Recently, scientists have even discovered that our gut plays a huge role in happiness as well. In fact, up to 90% of the body's serotonin, the neurotransmitter responsible for happiness, sleep, and appetite, is produced in the small intestine! It's like we have a second brain!

But without healthy fuel, our gut runs slowly and the body can't do it's job effectively. The result is higher risk of anxiety, fatigue, depression, and more. In order to boost your body's effectiveness through diet, make sure 80% of your food is coming from unprocessed sources. Include microbe-boosting goods including fermented foods rich in probiotics like sauerkraut, full-fat yoghurts, kombucha, and kimchi. You can also take a pre and probiotic supplement to further boost your body's ability to run like a well oiled machine.

A good diet is essential for optimal body and gut health, but often it isn't sufficient by itself. With the quality of today's farming soil our produce isn't as nutrient dense as it used to be.

That's why I also take BIOHM Probiotics daily as well as supplementing with the Super Greens powder when I am traveling. It eliminated bloating for me and definitely helped to regulate my digestion as well. Try it for 10% off with my code SweatWithSierra, I promise you won't be disappointed! I noticed a difference in my gut health in less than 48 hours!
